Pregnancy Yoga is a safe way of maintaining or gaining fitness, flexibility and strength, while respecting the added demands of pregnancy, and preparing for birth as well as the care of your baby afterwards. It is a special kind of yoga class, focussed specifically on enjoying and meeting the challenges of having a baby – including during pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatally. Both the physical poses and the relaxation techniques taught provide a good foundation for coping with extra challenges after baby is born.
Classes include:
- poses for pelvic, spinal and hip mobility (as well as general flexibility)
- poses which can be used during labour and birth
- general conditioning and strengthening
- pelvic floor conditioning including activation AND relaxation (equally important!)
- breathing exercises for relaxation and for labour
- relaxation techniques and guided meditation

Clients are welcome to attend whether having done yoga previously or not. Some women who have done yoga before pregnancy do choose to continue their usual classes. This can be possible, with a teacher who is well-versed in the various modifications required for pregnant clients. However this means they miss out on specific yoga practices best suited to pregnancy, and those that best prepare them for childbirth – both physically and mentally. The other element missing from general yoga classes is the sense of community gained from attending with other mums-to-be, as well as the enhanced bonding and connection between yourself and your growing child postnatal yoga.

These classes are caring, relaxed and nurturing, yet still active, and offer continuity of support throughout pregnancy. This can even continue into the Postnatal period, with Postnatal (Mums & Bubs) Yoga + Pilates and Baby Yoga classes also available in our studios.
If you have low back or pelvic pain or any other concerns you think may prevent you from doing yoga in pregnancy, contact Vicki. As a Specialist Physiotherapist and Certified Yoga Therapist, Vicki can adapt the class for anyone. (Numbers are kept small to allow for this.)
Classes may be claimable under Private Health Insurance with Physio cover.
